Abduction
Abduction is a movement way from the body.
Putting a leg way from other.
Adduction
Adduction- a movement towards the body.
Like putting one leg close to the other.
Flexion
Flexion- a bending movement which decreases the angle of a joint and shortens the muscles involved.
Like when you do the movement of goodbye with your hand.
Extension
Extension- straightening a joint which increases the the angle of a joint and lengthens the muscle involved.
Circumduction
Circumduction- movement of limb or finger that follows the shape of a cone. For example, an arm would have a little movement at the shoulder but greater movement of the hand.
Supination
Supination- rotation of the forearm so that the hand is turned to face the palm upward or anteriorly.
Palm of the hand turned up
Probation
Probation- rotation of the forearm so that the hand is turned to face the palm downwards it posteriorly.
Palm of the hand moves down
Plantar flexion
Plantar flexion- pointing the foot and toes down.
Sole of the foot move down ( toe pointed)
Dorsiflexion
Dorsiflexion- lifting the foot and toes upwards.
Top of the foot move up.
Inversion
Inversion- turning the plantar surface in towards the midline of the body.
Sole of the foot turned in.
Eversion
Eversion- turning the plantar surface out away from the midline of the body.
Sole of the foot turned outwards.
Medial rotation
Medial rotation- rotation towards the midline of the body.
Lateral rotation
Lateral rotation- rotation away from the midline of the body.
