Blood And Lymph Flashcards
Out line the differences between arteries and veins.
Arteries are the vessel that carry oxygenated blood, and vein are the vessel the carry deoxygenated blood. The structure of these two vessels is quite different. Veins have thinner walls than arteries and there lumen is larger. Veins also contain valves that prevent the back flow of blood. There are no valves in arteries.
What are arterioles?
Arterioles are small arteries
What are blood capillaries and where are they found?
Blood capillaries are tiny narrow blood vessels that form networks throughout the tissue. Capillaries link up the arterioles and venules.
Outline the main functions of blood.
Blood has a number of functions:
It transport oxygen, nutrients to the living cell.
It transport hormones around the body.
It transport waste materials and protective antibodies.
What is lymph?
Lymph is the straw-coloured liquid which travel in the lymphatic vessels. Lymph is the surplus tissues fluid which is not return to the venous circulation, but is picked up by the lymph capillaries. It is similar to blood plasma in its composition, and contain lymphocytes, waste products, salts and some proteins.
The external carotid artery supplies blood to:
The face and head.
What are the lymph nodes situated directly under the jawbone called?
Axillary glands.
Which vein drains blood from the face, brain and sinuses?
The internal jugular vein.
The right lymphatic duct drains lymph from:
The right side of the head and neck, right arm and thorax.
