Joint Movement, Joint Axis, Axis Of Rotation, Locomotion Flashcards
What are the planes of the body?
- Sagittal plane (separates left and right)
- Frontal plane (separates anterior and posterior)
- Transverse plane (separates superior and inferior)
What are the axis of the body?
- Frontal axis ( sp = fa)
- Sagittal axis (fp = sa)
- Vertical axis (tp = va)
Locomotion (fundamental movement patterns)
Locomotion is a type of linear movement, linear is a type of non stationary movement
Locomotion positions
- front support
- back support
- cross support
- hangs
Locomotion locations
- floor
- beam
- bars — horizontal, parallel
- rope
Spring mechanics (last slide why??)
- Increase the force of take off muscles
- Maintain rigidity
- Utilize non contact limbs to enhance force
What is locomotion? Key feature?
Movement pattern in which the body repetitively moves outside the base of support
Key feature is the repetition of a basic motor activity
Where does locomotion take place?
In Supports, in hangs, and on the feet
What is a spring?
Single dynamic takeoff
For rotations, what are the 3 axes that the body rotates about?
- Longitudinal axis (twists)
- Transverse axis (rolls)
- The anterior/posterior axis (cartwheel)
How are rotations caused?
By off-centre forces (force not passing through the centre of mass) any force that is passing through the centre of mass will only generate linear motion (displacement)
The further off-centre the force:
- The greater will be the rotation
- the less will be the displacement
Force couple
2 forces rotating the body
Ex. Force from leg push, force from feet stopping after a fast run
