Modesty block
Small rigid polymer block that have moulded holes that take screws. Often used for cupboards and storage units
Barrel nut and bolt
Uses a cross dowel that is fitted into one of the pieces to be joined. An allen key is used to tighten the bolt. Used to assemble parts of the flat pack furniture
Wooden Screws
Have a coarser ptich compaed to sheet metal screws, the shank does not have a thread. The top piece of wood has a clearance hole and the bottom piece of wood has a pilo hole (thinner than the thread).
Counter sink
Allows the scew to fit flish with the surface of the wood.
Slot head screw
Used for mirrors or light fittings using a slot head screwdriver.
Phillips screw
Accepts the tip of the screw driver at 57 degrees and if too much torque is applied, the screwdriver will slip prventing the stripping fof the thread of the screw.
Pozidriv screws
Imprive contact with screwdiver and allow greater torque. Used for jobs were multiple joints need to be fastened.
