State of nature

A

Natural societies where individuals enjoyed natural rights and freedoms.
State was a threat to freedoms and rights and should be limited to ensure that and individualism is maintained.
Wouldn’t be nasty brutish and short like Hobbes but peaceful, long and natural rights.

Social contract

A

(Not divine right)
Between rulers and those ruled.
People re,love those in power if violate contract and withdraw consent.
State accept citizens while we accept laws of land.
Legitimacy based on consent form people, given by absence of social disorder.
Voluntarily contest to accept rulings of state to improve sistuation.

A

Minds that are blank at birth.
Everything we believe is from experience.
Education is crucial but no useless subjects only business, ethics, science.
Association of ideas when young are important as thye are the foundation of ourselves.

Religious tolerance

A

Cannot evaluate truth but even if we could, a single ‘true religion’ wouldn’t work as cant be compelled into a beliefs thru violence.
Would lead to disorder.
Separate church state, individual free to choose religion without government interfere.

When offering consent to the state, promote our own self interest.
