It ended up in a tie between Dem.-Republican candidate Thomas Jefferson and his Vice President Aaron Burr. Thomas Jefferson became president. Hamilton didn’t like Burr and forced the Federalists to switch their votes over to Jefferson.

A

Judicial Review. It gave the court the power to deem something that the government did as unconstitutional. It was determined that anything that happened in court could not go against the constitution.

A

He wanted New Orleans and its port. He was afraid that France would claim it and not allow the U.S. to use it.

How did Jefferson ultimately end up purchasing the entire Louisiana Territory and under what terms?

A

He sent James Monroe to purchase New Orleans. Monroe was offered the entire Louisiana Territory instead for 15 million dollars. Jefferson didn’t know if he had the power at the time, but congress agreed that this was a good deal and allowed the purchase to take place.

The Otoe tribe. They had interactions with Lewis, Clark, and their men. These interactions were mainly negative, and they were threatened in multiple ways by them.

A

One of their men killed a Native American for taking their guns. They threatened to take the Otoe tribe’s land/trading posts. They brought diseases and killed 90 percent of some of the tribes, tribes were forced off of their rivers and relocated to reservations that had poor soil.

A

They respected Sacagawea and their family. They offered to help raise her child for a year. Sacagawea helped Lewis and Clark on their journey, and was their interpreter.

Possible ideas to talk about:
-Debate whether or not creating two parties was a good idea or a bad idea.
-Washington’s foreign policy precedent changed as both Adams and Jefferson collaborated/feuded with other countries instead of staying neutral.
-War seems to revolve around people being mistreated by the government, and wanting to fight for freedom.
-WAR MAKES THE COUNTRY BROKE!
