Bill of Rights Flashcards
Freedom of religion, press, speech and right to petition.
1st Amendment
We have the right to own guns (Bear Arms).
2nd Amendment
Americans cannot be forced to have soldiers stay in their homes.
3rd Amendment
A warrant is needed to search a person’s property.
4th Amendment
You have the right to a fair trial if you are accused of a crime. You do not have say anything that would make you look guilty (I plead the 5th).
5th Amendment
You have the right to a speedy trial.
6th Amendment
You have the right to a jury trial in a civil case for anything over $20. (suing someone).
7th Amendment
The punishment must fit the crime. (No big punishment for a little crime).
8th Amendment
Americans have basic human rights that are not listed in the Bill of Rights.
9th Amendment
Power that was not given to the U.S. Government by the Constitution is power for the states or people.
