JEBEL BUHAIS AND LIFE IN NEOLITHIC AGE Flashcards
Describe the effect of climate on the lives of the people.
From 36,000 to 10,000 BCE a thick layer of sand was built at Jabal Faya. This indicates that the time was very dry. Only few people lived in UAE because of the harsh climate. By 10,000 BCE climate started changing, the area received more rainfall. Scientist believe that this was because of the Indian monsoon moved over Arabia, which brought cooler temperature and more rainfall. The increased rainfall changed Arabian landscape. Grassland expanded, people moved from one place to another on seasonal basis. People started domesticating cattles, sheep and goats which provided milk, meat and wool.the animals were kept in herds and were moved around during the year depending upon weather and other factors. Keeping animals has always been important part of life in UAE.

identify how ppl lived in jebel buhais
Archaeologists found many fireplaces at Jebel Buhais dating between 5000 and 4000 BCE. In these fireplaces, researchers found bones of sheep, goats, cattle, and hunted animals, like camels. In addition, archaeologists found a large cemetery at Jebel Buhais. Remarkably, the inhabitants of Neolithic jebel Buhais had access to better food than people who lived in the area in later eras. The people buried at Jebel Buhais rarely suffered from a lack of food. They suffered violence, almost certainly because of clashes with other communities, but they were fit, tall and strong.

how did ppl in uae pearl?
(or)
Neolithic period in Arabia marked the beginning of pearling industry that defined UAE for thousands of years to come.JUSTIFY.
Excavation in UAE reveal early evidence of pearling.
At sites in Abu Dhabi, Umm Al Quwain and Sharjah there is evidence proving that people were diving for pearls and using them as jewellery over 7000 years ago.
We have very little evidence of the organization of pearling at this time but there can be little doubt that it required people to have special knowledge of where to find pearls and how to reach them.
They would collect the shells and then extract the pearl
They could use the remaining shell (Known as Mother of Pearl) was used to make decorative items like beads.
Thus Neolithic period in Arabia marked the beginning of pearling industry that defined UAE for thousands of years to come.
