JAVMA 2018: Radiographic outcome of root canal treatment of canine teeth in cats: 32 cases (1998–2016) Flashcards
who is the author?
Peter Strom B. Arzy M. Lommer F. Verstraete …
what is the suggested protocol for radiographic re-examination of RCT in cats?
minimum of 1 year follow-up, as long as 4 years to be judged a success
what were the criteria for success, NEF and failure in this study?
Successful: if the periapical PDL space was within reference limits and preoperative EIRR, if present, had stabilized. NEF: if preoperative EIRR had stabilized and preexisting PL remained the same or decreased in size but had not completely resolved. Failure: if PL or EIRR developed subsequent to endodontic treatment or preexisting PL had increased in size or preoperative EIRR appeared to have progressed after RCT.
in this study, what what the sole reason teeth underwent RCT?
CCF
37 teeth were rechecked. How many were successul, NEF and failed?
Success: 18 - 49% NEF: 12 - 32% Failed: 7 - 19%
what obturation technique was associated with overfill?
twice as frequent when vertical compaction with thermoplastic GP was used
how were voids in the obturation material associated with outcome?
Voids in the apical 1/3 had a 5x increase in the rate of failure, but P value was not significant (p - 0,069)
how did periapical EIRR affect outcome?
10x increase of failure, P = 0,012
what variables were associated with an increased risk of failure?
preexisting EIRR age at time of tx obturation voids (not significant but close) 2 years after RCT (associated with root resorption or failure of AP to resolve)
