Q

What dtermines a foul in javelin?

A
  • cannot step out of the arc at the end of the runway

- javelin must land in sector, point down

10
Q

What is the goal of the throwing technique?

A

to synchronize body movements to
maximize the force applied (over the longest path possible) to the
javelin in the direction of the throw.

Q

Describe the withdrawl

A

throwing arm is extended backwards and the

athlete turns the chest so as to face the throwing arm side

16
Q

2 sub phases of the Throw

A

Penultimate step and Block Step

17
Q

describe the penultimate step

A
  • penultimate leg lands softly and stays
bent through the entirety of the throw.
  • The right hips are rotated to face the target (“open”) while the
shoulders are kept facing the side (“closed”) nearly until the
    block touches down.
18
Q

Describe the block step

A
  • weight is shifted to the left
side and the block leg makes contact with the ground – with
    a stiff knee.
  • Once the shoulder axis has rotated to the front, the left side of
    the upper body will block
19
Q

Error dectition in approach

A

– Good running mechanics shown?
» Teach effective mechanics as per sprinting events
– Smooth withdrawal of javelin?
» Practicing smooth withdrawal
– Effective cross steps (maintaining speed)?
» Practice cross steps to maintain velocity

20
Q

Error detection in the Throw

A
– Penultimate step:
» Soft contact, stays bent
» Hips rotate to ‘open’ position
» Shoulders stay in ‘closed’ position
– Block Step:
» Stiff knee
» Keeping arm back for as long as possible
» Hand must come over top of arm (cannot be a sidearm
throw)
