100m Sprint Flashcards
What are the 3 stages of the sprint?
- The Start
- The Acceleration
- The Upright Sprinting phase
What is the legal reaction time for the start?
0.100 is the quickest allowed
What are the legal wind readings for a world record to be legit?
-2.0 – 2.0
How many false starts are you allowed?
0
One false start and you’re gone
What are the 4 points for proper position when “on your marks…” is called?

Describe the Acceleration phase. (4)
• Takes place over roughly the first 20-40m
• Athlete reaches 90-95% max velocity
• Intended to transition the athlete fluidly and efficiently from the start position up to upright sprinting.
• Length of acceleration phase is dependent
on strength/ability of the athlete
What is the purpose of the Upright Sprinting Phase?
• The purpose of the upright sprinting phase is to them maintain effective mechanics to sustain velocity and reach finish line efficiently.
What are 3 Key Technical Points for the Upright Sprinting Phase?
- Heel to butt, and thigh move forward
- Then unfolding hip and knee simultaneously (passive)
- Alternate smooth arm swing
List 4 coaching points for the Sprinting Phase.
