A

when a German catholic prince was elected the position of King of Bohemia/ This was the problem as usually the Holy Roman Emperor would be elected to the position as it his right. Q

What did James do regarding the 30 years war ?

A

He negotiated for peace with Spain, as he already secured peace in 1604 and wanted to maintain it. This angered the political nation as a protestant monarch was engaging in diplomatic negotiations with a catholic country. This led to MP’s criticising the Spanish match. This angered James as he believed that foreign policy was part of his prerogative, however the MP’s stated that it was their ‘birth right’ to engage in foreign policy, James then simply dissolved parliament.
