- when Buckingham’s troops attacked, they soon realised that their scaling ladders was too short
- by the time Buckingham was going to attack the French monarch already made peace with the protestant Huguenots.
- the attack on La Rochelle signalled that Britain were in war with France and Spain, this would lead to Charles calling parliament again for additional funds
