Jack Flashcards
“We’ve got to have rules and obey therm. After all, we’re not savages. We’re English and the English are the best at everything. So we’ve got to do the right things.”
Early on in Lord Of The Flies, Jack still felt conditioned by his previous English society to want morals, law and order, and to reject savagery.
“Rescue? Yes, of course! All the same, I’d like to catch a pig first.”
Jack has lost interest in the idea of being rescued. He only has the idea of a hunt on his mind.
“Out of this face stared two blue eyes, frustrated now, and turning, or ready to turn to anger.”
His fiery hair and his ugly appearance give us clues to his hot-headed, unpleasant character.
“There is no beast!”
Represents Ralph’s insecurities about being masculine for the littleuns’.
“his bright blue eyes… seemed bolting and nearly mad.”
Jack was mad from the start, so when he turns savage, it’s almost less surprising that he becomes a vicious dictator over the boys.
