What is the usual prescription of fluids in a maintenance scenario in someone who is nil by mouth I.e what fluids are prescribed, how much in total and over how long?

A

0.9% saline 1 litre with 40mmol Kcl over 8 hours

2 bags of 5% dextrose, with one containing 40mmol Kcl each given over 8 hours

In total 3 litres of fluid with 80mmol Kcl over 24 hours
