A

Like a prime minister, runs the show… Wants to increase the size of Prussia and if it means German unified, so be it. He wanted to raise $ for war and wealthy class didn’t. He was an example of real politik governing… Didn’t care about ethics, religion, etc, just focused on goal.

France: Control land that used to belong to Prussia

Political Differences: Between Bismarck and the wealthy class (over $ for war)

  1. Sardinia provokes Austria into battle and beats them w/ French help
  2. Garibaldi gathers his army “red shirts” in the south, they conquer and move north
  3. Cavour links w/ Garibaldi and France is finally driven from Italy b/c they were being beaten by Prussia

  2. Allies with Russia to take back Schleswig and Holstein
  3. Provokes Austria to war & crushes them in 7 weeks war
  4. Provokes France & crushes them (revenge for Napoleon) Franco-Prussian war
  5. Establishes Germany in 1871
