Isomerism Flashcards

1
Q

Name all types of constitutional isomerism and their meaning

A

Linkage isomerism: ONO, NOO

Coordination isomerism: swapping ligands in solution with other complex

Ionization isomerism: inner sphere ligand changinng for outersphere counter ion

Solvate isomerism: swapping inner water for outer counter ion, example: Cl- comes in and H2O goes out as another product

Q

Name all types of stereoisomerism

A

Geometrical Isomerism: trans/cis. Fac/mer

Optical isomerism: a mirror image that is not superimposable = chiral, if superimposed = achiral. Two mirror images = enantiomers of each other.
