What is an Ion Pair?

A

An Ion pair is when an anionic ligand goes to substitute a ligand in a cationic metal complex and gets close to a cationic metal center due to strong electrostatic attraction.

The ion pair is shown like: {[CoCl(NH3)6]2+ , Br-}

Equilibriums can be rearranged to find the actual rate equation.

RDS = {…} -> [CoBr…] + Cl-
