What is the difference of direct and indirect contact?
Direct contact: from the infected
Indirect contact: touching a contaminated object
What is protective precautions and what do you need?
Designed to prevent transfer of infection to patients (for the immune compromised)
Door is kept closed, special ventilation, PPE is always used, patient must use a respirator when outside the room
What is airborne precautions and what is needed?
Designed to reduce the transmission of droplet particles
Need: N-95 respiratory mask
Door closed

patient must use respiratory mask if leaving the room
What is droplet precaution and what do you need for it?
Designed to stop transmission of bacteria from mucous membranes
Needs: special ventilation in the room
Private room
