Prevent transmission of *suspected* infection in a patient
Strict isolation
Prevent transmission of highly contagious infections

Initiated when patient has condition transmitted by direct contact with a person or items in patient’s environment
Droplet precautions
Initiated when patient has condition transmitted by large particle droplets of sputum or mucus
Droplet/Contact precautions
Initiated when patient has condition transmitted by both droplet and contact.
Airborne precautions
Initiated when patient has condition transmitted through the air
