What are the ‘99 names of God’?
- There are 99 names, these titles fit because while the Islamic religion believes there is only one God, they also believe that God is all. Allah represents something all knowing, all powerful, all loving, because Allah is everything, everywhere.
What is a common place for pilgrimages and why?
- Mecca, Western Saudi Arabia
- Birthplace of Muhammad
- Muslims turn towards mecca during their daily prayers.
How did Islam start?
- Revealed 1,400 years ago in Mecca
- Muhammad was the last prophet
- Though further back the founding goes back to Abraham and Ishmael.
- Qur’an was revealed by the angel Gabriel to the Prophet Muhammad in Mecca

Take off shoes, wash your body and become clean

What are the rules and commandments
In Islam there are five main rules, these are called the five pillars of Islam.
What is Shahadah?
- The first pillar of Islam
- Profession of Faith/Creed
- The declaration that there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is His messenger
What is Salaat?
- The second pillar of Islam
- Prayer
- The daily ritual prayers performed facing Mecca
What is Zakat?
- The third pillar of Islam
- Almsgiving
- The giving of alms or charity to those in need
What is Sawm?
- The fourth pillar of Islam
- Fasting
- The observance of fasting during the holy month of Ramadan
What is Hajj?
- The fifth pillar of Islam
- Pilgrimage
- The pilgrimage to Mecca that all able Muslims are required to undertake at least once in their lives
What are the rules on Image of Allah?
- It is forbidden to make image of Allah
- Allah is too great
- Allah cannot be described or represented by humans knowledge

What is Aqiqah?
Aqiqah is the initiation into Islam. It is sharing a meal with family and friends.
What takes place during Aqiqah?
- Shared meal
- The baby’s hair is shaved and weighed and its weight in gold is then donated to charity
- An animal is sacrificed for the baby
- 1/3 of the meal is given to the poor
What are Muslim children named after?
It is recommended that that the child is named after one of the 99 names of God. This name then determines what the child is like when they grow up.
What is the first thing a child hears when they are born?
- The first word the child will hear is ‘Allah’
- After the bathing the father recites Adnan (call to prayer)
