Ischemic Heart Disease Drugs (Exam III) Flashcards

1
Q

Heparin

A

Anticoagulant; complexes with antithrombin III
Tx: venous thrombosis, PE, MI, unstable angina
Toxicity: bleeding, thrombocytopenia, osteoporosis

Q

Enoxaparin

A

Anticoagulant; low molecular weight heparin
Tx: venous thrombosis, PE, MI, unstable angina
Toxicity: bleeding, thrombocytopenia, osteoporosis
Notes: longer duration than unfractionated heparin; monitor if given w/ other anticoags

Q

Diltiazem

A

Ca2+ channel blocker; cardioselective L-type Ca2+ channel blocker
Tx: Angina, arrhythmias, hypertension
Toxicity: Excessive cardiac depression, constipation
Notes: strong cardiac blocking effect, weaker vascular smooth muscle blocking effect relative to dihydropyridines

Q

Nitroglycerin

A

Vasodilator; nitric oxide donor
Tx: angina, acute coronary syndrome
Toxicity: tachycardia, hypotension
Notes: sublingual = short duration; oral = long duration; decreases preload by dilating veins in the periphery (very little effect on coronary arteries)
