What are the symptoms of IBS/
A
- pain relieved by defaecation / associated with altered stool form / bowel frequency
- alternating constipation and diarrohoea
- urgency
- incomplete evacuation
- abdo bloating, distension
- mucous on PR
- worsening of symptoms after food
- nausea / vomiting
- bladder sympt
- backache

What can exacerbate IBS?
A
- stress
- menstruation
- gastroenteritis (post infection IBS)

What are the red flags when diagnosing IBS that should be investigated further?
A
- 50yrs +
- blood PR
- weight loss
- family history of ovarian cancer/ bowel cancer
- prominent diarrhoea

What invx are done of IBS?
A
Bloods:
- FBC
- ESR / CRP
- LFT
- coeliac serology
