How do gastric cancers present?
A
- Dysepsia (vague abdo pain for 1 month and age 50+ —-> investigate)
- weight loss
- vomiting
- dysphagia
- anaemia

What are the examination signs of gastric cancer?
A
- epigastric mass
- hepatomegaly
- jaundice
- ascites
- large left supraclavicular virchow’s node (trosiers sign)
- acanthosis nicrigans

What tests are done for gastric cancer?
A
- gastro-oesophageal endoscopy with multiple edge ulcer biopsies
- endoscopic ultrasound to determine depth of cancer
- CT/MRI fro staging
- cytology of peritoneal washing to identify presence of peritoneal metastases.

What is the treatment of gastric cancer?
A
- Partial or total gastrectomy
- combination chemotherapy (epirubicin, cisplatin, 5-fluorouracil)
- trageted therpies e.g. trastuzamab for HER2 positive tumours

What is the 5yr survival rates of gastric cancer?
A
less than 10% overall 5 yr survival rates for gastric cancer but 20% for patients with radical gastric surgery.

A
