IQ3 - Polypeptide Synthesis Flashcards
What is Translation?
The process by which mRNA sequence iss converted into a specific sequence of amino acids (carried by tRNA) in the ribosomes
What is mRNA
It’s a single, stranded nucleic acid, consisting of ribose sugar, phosphate backbone, and nitrogen bases (A,U,G,C)
Define tRNA
Small RNA molecule that transfers specific amino acids to the ribosome during formation polypeptides
What is a codon
It’s a set of three nitrogen bases in mRNA
What is an anticodon
A complementary set of three nitrogen bases on tRNA
What is a Polypeptide
Linear molecules, made up of multiple peptides
What is protein
Functional unit made up of one or more
What is peptide
Short chain that consists in between 2-50 amino acids
Advantages of Model
- Leads to increased understanding and future research
- Simplifies complex concepts
Weaknesses of models:
- May not be accurate
