IPv4 & IPv6 Static Routing Flashcards
How does a router operate?
Select the best path for a packet based on destination address, encapsulate with a new frame and forward to next hops MAC address
What is a remote network?
Any network not connected locally to the router
What ICMP message is received of the router cannot find match?
“Destination unreachable” is displayed whenever the router cannot find
a match for the path in its routing table.
What is Network Learning?
When a route is learned statically or dynamically
What are stub networks?
Stub networks consist of a single router that sends and receives non-local traffic
via a single path.
What is an example of a Default Static route?
a Gateway of Last Resort, which is used for any packet that does not
have a destination route in the routing table. The destination in such cases is often set to the internet.
What are the two Static Routed types?
Standard Static (configured manually) and Dynamic Static (gateway of last resort)
What is Administrative Distance (AD)?
predefined value for each routing method.
The router selects the path of the lowest AD value in the routing table
What are the default AD values?
Directly-connected 0
Static Route 1
Internal EIGRP 90
OSPF 110
RIP 120
What is the Summary Static Route used for?
To reduce the number of routing table entries, multiple static routes can be summarized to a single address.
What is a metric?
A metric is a measurable value assigned by the routing protocol to
different routes based on the usefulness of the route.
