Ipratropium Indications
A
- Bronchospasm secondary to asthma or COPD
- Prominent bronchospasm secondary to airway burns, smoke inhalation or chest infection

A
Known severe allergy

Ipratropium Dose
A
0.5 mg for adults and children only once

Ipratropium Administration
A
Nebulised undiluted (in combination with salbutamol) using air as the driving gas for COPD, OR Oxygen as the driving gas for asthma

Ipratropium Mechanism of Action
A
- A bronchodilator
- An anticholinergic agent with predominantly antimuscarinic activity. It antagonises (blocks) acetylcholine receptors, causing vagal inhibition resulting in bronchodilation.

Ipratropium Common Adverse Effects
A
- Tachycardia
- Dry mouth
- Blurred vision (usually with repeated dose)
