Ibuprofen Contraindications

A
  1. Known severe allergy
  2. Pregnancy
    3.The presence of sepsis, dehydration, shock or clinically significant bleeding. As it can worsen renal impairment and increase the risk of bleeding
  3. Known worsening of bronchospasm with NDAIDs.

  1. Has taken within the last four hours
  2. Abdominal pain, particularly if unwell or vomiting
  3. Age greater than or equal to 75 years, particularly if frail

Ibuprofen Mechanism of Action

A
  • Is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAIDs)
  • Inhibits the activity of the enzyme prostaglandin synthetase, reducing prostaglandin production and causing a reduction in inflammation, pain and fever.

  • Can cause Indigestion, gastrointestinal ulceration and bleeding with chronic administration
