  • GI bicarbonate loss (diarrhoea, fistula)
  • Renal tubular acidosis
  • Addison’s disease (adrenal insufficiency)

Others: drugs, ammonium chloride

  • Lactic acidosis: sepsis, shock, hypoxia, metformin
  • Ketoacidosis: DKA, alcohol
  • Urate: renal failure
