Investigation Flashcards
Endothermic reaction
Reactions where heat energy is absorbed from the surrounding and temperature on the surroundings decreases.
Exothermic reactions
Reactions whereby heat is released to the surroundings and temperature of the surroundings increases.
Solute
A substance that gets dissolved in another substance (solvent)
Solvent
A substance that has the ability to dissolve other substances. Typically a liquid like water.
Solution
A mixture of two or more substances where one substance where the solute is evenly distributed in the solvent.
Ammonium chloride in water
Ammonium chloride absorbs the heat from its surroundings during the process. When it is added to water to ions NH4 and Cl- form the solid seperate by water molecules, forming hydrated ions.
