Introduction to social psychology Flashcards
Social psychology
the scientific study of how people’s thoughts, feelings and behaviours are influenced by the actual, imagined presence of others
correlation
tests if two variables are related.
positive correlation
as one variable goes up, so does the other
negative correlation
as one variable goes down, the other goes up
within person experiment
person has a series of things happen that fall into two categories, while measuring the same thing each time
within subject issues
- doesn’t always make sense to do
between subjects experiment
people are randomly assigned to one of two groups. One thing differs between the groups and everything else stays the same.
qualitative research
something is analysed (a person, a group, a series of songs, a conversation) in depth. The responses are analysed for themes and possibly differences are noted across different groupings
