Introduction to research (hypotheses) Flashcards
What are the 2 types of hypotheses
1) null hypothesis (h0)
2) Alternative hypothesis (h1)
Null hypothesis
Prediction that no effects will be found
Alternative hypotheses
Prediction that effects will be found
What is the difference between a one tailed h1 and a two- tailed h1
One tailed hypothesis is where the effects are specified whereas with a two tailed one, there is no specification of the direction of the findings.
When should hypotheses be developed
After looking at the relevant research but before own experiment
Hypotheses must be _ and _ ?
1) Testable: must be able to make observations or conduct experiments to test whether it is correct or not
2) Falsifiable: possible to prove it wrong where there is evidence
