15
Q

What are the 3 components of tear film

A
  1. Outer oily layer (meibomian glands)
  2. Aqueous layer (lacrimal, nictitans gland)
  3. Inner mucin layer (conjunctival goblet cells)

16
Q

If you have an ulcer that does not uptake fluorescein stain what does that tell you

A

Stroma is gone, only descemets membrane left from keeping eye rupture

17
Q

Identify stains

A

top: fluorescein- superficial ulcer
Bottom: rose bengal- keratitis

18
Q

What does the tonopen do

A

Measures IOP

19
Q

What is normal IOP

A

16-30mm Hg

20
Q

What should you apply before doing tonopen

A

Proparacaine

21
Q

What drug do we use to dilate eyes

A

Tropicamide

22
Q

What does the direct examination of fundus look at

A

0 for retina/optic nerve
Green 20 for cornea/lids
Greater magnification

23
Q

What does indirect examination of fundus reveal

A

Inverted imagine, less magnification

24
Q

Identify the 3 structures in this image and is it healthy or unhealthy

A

top/yellow: tapetum
Bottom/blue/black: non-tapetum
Orange circle: optic disk/nerve

25
Q

What is wrong here

A

Butterfly lesion, chorioretinal around optic nerve

Seen with recurring uveitis

26
Q

what wrong here

A

Severe chorioretinal degeneration near optic disc in horse with recurrent uveitis

27
Q

what is this

A

Sub-palpebral lavage kit- good for aggressive/long term treatment

28
Q

What is the appropriate order of ophthalmic procedures

A
  1. Visual exam of ocular adnexa
  2. Neuro exam
  3. Schirmer tear test
  4. Sedation
  5. Block auriculopalpebral
  6. Block supraorbital
  7. Fluorescein stain
  8. Rose bengal stain
  9. Apply proparacaine- obtain IOP with tonopen
  10. Retract 3rd eyelid
  11. Administer tropicamide
  12. Examine fundus
  13. Flush nasolacrimal duct with saline
