COMMON
- 6% of under 11s
- 18.6% 11-17 year olds
- Approximately 1 in 1000 children under the age of 4 will suffer severe physical abuse e.g. fractures, brain haemorrhage

- Skeletal survey
- CT head
- ophthalmology-look for hemorrhages
- look for medical causes

- Spiral fracture
- metaphyseal fracture (twisting mechanism)
- bucket handle (cresent)
- corner (triangular) - Age < 1 year (immobile)

- retinal haemorrhages
- encephalopathy
- sub-dural haemorrhages on CT scan
- also might have rib fractures or long bone fractures

A
a range- well or collapsed, POOR PROGNOSIS

- bruises on inner thighs
- discharge
