Intro To Patho Flashcards
What is the importance of pathophysiology to PT’s?
How a disease or injury will affect a patient physically and functionally. We can use EBP and contextual factors to determine an exercise protocol
Define Disease
Impairment of cell, tissue, organ, or system functioning
Define Pathology
Study of changes in cells and tissues as a result of injury or disease
What is primary prevention
Preventative intervention
What is secondary intervention?
Disease is there but they may not know it (diabetes, hypertension)
What is tertiary intervention?
Preventing diseases from progressing (stroke, CP)
A patient presents to your clinic with CP. what intervention would you perform?
Tertiary intervention
A patient presents with high blood pressure. What intervention level would you use?
Secondary intervention
Your child wants to start riding a bike to school. What level of intervention would you provide to keep them educated and safe as they ride.
Primary intervention (road safety, helmet)
Concept of Acute
Relatively rapid onset with short duration
Concept of Subacute
Between acute and chronic, longer than a few I days but shorter than a few months
Concept of chronic
Includes illness that elicit permanent impairment/ disability. Residual physical/cognitive impairment and a need for special rehab
Concept of Subclinical
The condition exists with no obvious manifestations.
Development of Disease
Etiology -> Pathogenesis -> morphological changes -> clinical significance
What is included in the Health State of an individual?
Health Behaviors, social and economic environment, physical environment, clinical care
