Intro To Movement Flashcards
What does anterior mean
Facing towards the front
What does posterior mean
Facing towards the back
What does medial mean
Closer to the body’s midline
What does lateral mean
Further from the body’s midline
What does deep mean
Nearer to the inside
For example the heart is deep
What does superficial mean
Closer to the outside
For example skin or hair
What does superficial mean
Located at the top
(Super means higher so above)
What does inferior means
Located towards the bottom
What does proximal mean
Located closer to a major point ( closer to the trunk of the body)
What does distal mean
Further from a major point (further away from the trunk of the body
What does unilateral mean
One side of the body
E.g unilateral arm movement, move one arm
What does bilateral mean
Both sides of the body
Eg move your arms bilaterally, you would move both arms at the same time
What does ipsilateral mean
The same side
Eg the same arm and leg move
What does contralateral mean
Opposite sides move
Eg opposite arm and leg move
Demonstrate the anatomical positon
Cheek the position is correct.
- standing upright
- legs together
- toes pointing forward
- arms by side
-face of Palms directed forward.
What is an anatomical plane
An anatomical plane is an imaginary 2d surface passing through the body
What are the 3 anatomical planes
Frontal
Sagittal
transverse
What is the frontal plane
The frontal plane divides the body into front and back
movements of the body away from the midline is called abduction, movements of the body towards the midline is called adduction
What is the sagittal plane
The Sagittal plane divides the body into right and left parts.
Movements Of the body parts forwards is called flexion
Movements of the body parts backwards is called extension
What is the transverse plane
’ The transverse plane divides the body into upper and lower parts.
movement = rotation of body parts outwards is called external (lateral)
Movements = rotation of body parts inwards is called internal rotation (medial)
What plane does the face of a clock represent.
A frontal plane
What are axes
Axes are imaginary lines passing through the body or joints
they in perpendicular to anatomicalplanes,
What are the 3 axes of rotation
Horizontal axes
vertical axes
anteroposterior axes (AP)
What axes should shoulder flexion and extension be on.
The arm would move in the horizontal axes
