Forces Flashcards
What is a force
A force is a push or pull which allows us to start or stop moving, change direction or maintain balance
It is measured in Newtons.
What is a tensil force?
A pulling force acting on the ends of an internal structure (muscles onto tendons onto bones )
What is a compressive force
A pushing force acting on ends of an internal structure (bones onto cartilage onto bones)
What are contact forces and non-contact forces.
Contact forces - other objects in direct Contact, ground reaction force, friction, air resistance
Non-contact forces- gravity, electromagnetic.
What is colinear forces
Forces in the same line °f action, same or opposite direction.
What is a concurrent force
’ Force that acts the same point of application but not on the same line
What are Newtons laws of motion
① law of inertia - everybody continues in a state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line, unless it is compelled to change that state by an external force applied on it. Inertia is the resistance of the body to change motion.
② law of alcerceration- external forces cause acceleration., if an object accelerates then a net external force must be acting on the object
③ law of action - reaction- to every action there is an opposite reaction.
What is the law of gravity?
The force of gravity acting on an object is termed it’s weight.
All objects attract each other with gravitational force.
