What is fractional distillation?
A way of separating liquids that dissolve into each other (Miscible liquids)
How does distillation work?
It heats the solution, the solvent evaporates and is trapped and condensed leaving only the solute.
What is a compound?
Have a fixed ratio composition, chemical reactions must be used to separate them, there is bonds between the different elements.
What is a mixture?
No fixed ratio, can separate easily (physically), no chemical bonds.
What is the difference between a molecule and an atom?
A molecule is 2 or more atoms but an atom is singular element
What is an atom with a positive charge called?
cations
What is an atom with a negative charge called?
Anions
What is a Solution?
the product of mixing a solute and solvent
What is a solute?
something that dissolves in a liquid
What is a solvent?
something that dissolves a solute
What is the law of conservation of mass
The total mass of products formed in a reaction is equal to the mass of the reactants.
