- Hardening of arteries
- Thickening and loss of elasticity in arterial walls
- Most common acquired disease of developing countries

Atherosclerosis
A
- Type of arteriosclerosis
- Build up of fat (mostly cholesterol) in arterial walls
- Can lead to thrombosis
- Ischemia and infraction can result

Ischemia
A
Reduction of the blood supply to an organ or region

A
Local death (necrosis) of an area of tissue or organ resulting in reduced blood supply

Varicose veins
A
- Weakened veins twist and bulge under pressure of supporting a column of blood against gravity
- Cusps of veins worn out and don’t meet (incompetent valves), increased size of “blood column” weighing on veins
- Incompetent facia doesn’t contain expansion of contracting muscles and musculofascial pump in ineffective
