Q

Angle of declination (torsion angle)

A
  • between head and neck of femur and transverse axis of femoral condyles along shaft
  • allows for flexion/extension, adduction/abduction, rotation of thigh

Q

Angle of inclination

A
  • long axis of head and neck of femur project superomedially
  • proximal femur is “L-shaped”
  • average in adults = 126 degrees (115-140)
  • less in females
  • allows greater mobility of femur at hip joint - places head and neck of femur more perpendicular to acetabulum
