“Me”
“I”

*Provides continuity between the past, present, and future self
What are the three aspects of the “Me”?
Material self: Physical entities that belong to a person

*Having a body is at the core of having a self
Social self: Shaped by and expressed through interactions with others
*We have as many selves as people we have interactions with
Spiritual self: The inner self
*E.g. personality, core values, emotions
*Who we are at our core
What is the self made of?
Both “me” and “I”
Generally what is the self?
your social identity and your inner processes that enable you to operate your body successfully in society
*The self is dynamic in that it is always in flux dealing with new situations, learning, and adapting
