Intro Flashcards
What is ecology and what are the 2 sides of it
The study of the interactions organisms have with their environment
This may entail natural history: where it is what we see in natures (identification and descriptions)
Or ecology where the goal is to understand wait certain trait are acquired by organisms or sub species
What is the hierarchy of ecological organization
Individual
Pop
Comm
Landscape
Ecosystem
Macro ecology
Global ecology
What is autoecology
The study of an individual organism species and how it interacts with the environment
May encompass physiological or behavioural adaptation, most of the time adaptations will be acquired to protons survival and reproduction
What is physiological ecology
The morphology of an organism that allows it to survive in a particular location
Eg. water conservation
What is behavioural ecology
Theindividual behaviour of orgs and how that influences interactions . Usually associated with reproduction
Population ecology
How the environment influences a population (the distribution, dynamics abundance and growth)
What is a population
A group of a single spices inhabiting a defined area
What is community ecologist
The interactions between species
Focuses on completion, relationships (parasitism, commensalism…)
How the evolutionanary affect on one org will impact another
Ecosystem ecology
The biological, chemical and physical interactions and b or processes that occur in a location
Landscape ecology
The exchange of materials, energy or organisms between communities or ecosystems
Macro ecology
Focuses on processes and patterns of ecosystems and their overall distribution in a region
Global ecology
The highest lvl of ecological organization. It is the biosphere
How can ecologically similar species coexist in one area
By ulitizing different comports of their habitat or unit to acquire the same out some. Ei birds living or feeding in different sections of the tree to get food and reduce competition
What are stable isotopes and how are they used
An atom that does not radioactively decay, but differs from the go element by the number of neutrons
They are used to asses migratory patters of species. Where the isolated will differ in vegetation from region to region and blood analysis will, revealve which orgs feed on which plants
