Intramolecular Forces – ionic, covalent Flashcards
1
Q
Ionic Bonds:
A
Ions are atoms that have lost or gained electrons.
Anion: Negatively charged ion (gains electrons).
Cation: Positively charged ion (loses electrons).
Ionic bonds form between oppositely charged ions and dissolve in water.
2
Q
Covalent Bonds:
A
Form when atoms share pairs of valence electrons.
For example, in Molecular Hydrogen H2, both hydrogen atoms share their electron to fill their valence shells.
