Intorduction Flashcards
Background
In the mid 1940s the great migration had firmly established African-Americans in the Northern Industrial states such as car manufacturing encouraged blacks to migrate to Chicago and Detroit. Blacks had greater economic and political power and because they congregated in the suburbs they were less vulnerable to attack. This migration increased black consciousness and sense of community upon which Black Civil Rights Movement could build.
Factors
Factors that influenced the growing demand for the movement was the continuation of prejudice and racism, the experience of black servicemen in the WWII, the emergence of Effective black organisations, the emergence of effective black leaders and the role of Martin Luther King.
Line of argument
Through the use of an in-depth analysis of the above factors it will become clear that whilst the effects of the continuation of prejudice and racism was important, it was in fact the experience of black servicemen in WWII the most significant reason for the growth of the civil rights movement after 1945.
