Knowledge point one - CORE
The Congress Of Racial Equality (CORE) was an organisation responsible for organised sit-ins at segregated Chicago restaurants and interstate transport.
Analysis point one
Organisations were uniting under a common cause to fight for their civil rights, people were inspired by their aims and actions and as a result the movement grew in force.
Knowledge point two - SCLC
The Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) wanted to offer and alternative direct non-violent strategy such as campaigning in places that would gain maximum publicity for minimum work.
Analysis point two
People were motivated by the non-violent tactics and the black Americans knew hey could not be incriminated with these actions so they joined the movement to gain their equality.
Limitations
Although the organisations were a lot stronger they used some violent tactics which not everyone agreed with so preventing people from going the movement.
Evaluation
- used various tactics to challenge white supremacy and to end all forms of segregation
- helped unite the masses and create a powerful force
- newspapers like Baltimore Afro-America increased sense of community which were proud and united
- they had existed for years and had no significant impact
- the WWII encouraged people to join the organisations which they were able to tackle the issues
