Interventions Flashcards
What are examples of ACT?
Postural drainage Vibration Percussion Cough techniques Mech aids
What does the vest do?
Continuously give 30 percussion’s
Mainly for muscular dystrophy
What is PEP?
Pt exhales through a back pressure
During long expiration against pos pressure, peripheral airways are stabilized while collateral vein is promoted distal to retained secretions and aids in their mob into larger AW
What are collateral vent?
Vent of alveolar structure thru passages that bypass normal airways
- inter-bronchiolar
- bronchio-alveolar
- interlobar
ACAPELLA ***
Loosens sputum
Effective for CF
PRO- can be performed in all postural drainage positions
FLUTTER***
SITTING ONLY
Helps bring sputum up
THERAPEP***
Blow in=causes back pressure
COUGH ASSIST DEVICE ***
Used for someone to keep them off vent
Pts who cannot generate a good force for cough
Helps bring up sputum
Other strategies
Vent movement Therapeutic body positioning Positioning for dyspnea*** (arms resting on something on thighs or leaning against something) Energy conservation (shower bench) Relaxation
PLB
Dyspnea
Diaphragmatic breathing
NOT for COPD
LC breathing
Segmental breathing used for those who dont have chest excursion/diaphragm
Butterfly
Gets better chest EXPANSION
Good for coughing and gets more air in
Respiratory muscle training
Intercostal is an example
IncreasesADL for those who are super de-conditioned
Incentive spirometery
Helps with deep breathing and coughing
GO TO for NM- guillian, post polio, MS pts
