Interventions Flashcards
1
Q
What interventions would you implement for a child with sepsis?
A
- Fluids for low blood pressure
- Paracetamol for fever
- Antibiotics to help aid the body to fight infection
- Blood cultures to identify the cause of septic response
- Oxygen can be given if child’s oxygen requirement increases
2
Q
What interventions would you implement for a child with hypovolaemic shock?
A
- Fluids to increase blood volume, and therefore increase blood pressure
- Give the patient blood to stabilise blood volume
- Apply pressure to wound to stop/control blood loss
- Identify any electrolyte imbalances to determine choice of replacement fluids
3
Q
What interventions would you implement for a child with asthma?
A
- 15 litres high flow oxygen via non-rebreathe face mask with reservoir bag to prevent hypoxia
- Repositioning to aid chest expansion
- Inhaled beta 2 agonists, salbutamol, via inhaler or nebuliser, to aid bronchodilation and consider adding ipratropium bromide and magnesium sulphate
- Consider steroids, eg oral prednisolone if tolerated or IV hydrocortisone
