Interventional Radiology Flashcards

Q
What is interventional radiology (IR)?
A
- IR refers to a range of techniques which rely on the use of radiological image guidance (X-ray fluoroscopy, ultrasound, CT or MRI) to precisely target therapy.
- Most IR treatments are minimally invasive alternatives to open and laparoscopic surgery.
- As many IR procedures start with passing a neddle through the skin to the target, it can be called pinhole surgery.
