intervention contra/precaution 1/8 Flashcards
intervention contraindications - ACL repair
no open chain knee extension (causes anterior shear force)
intervention contraindications - knee meniscus repair
limit WB and ROM 6wks (2wks NWB, 4wks progress)
Limiting the knee flexion to 90° (first 4 to 6 weeks) to limit the shear stress to the healing meniscus (displaces meniscus)
intervention contraindications - achilles repair
limit WB, ROM 6weeks (2wks NWB, 4wks progress)
avoid activating gastroc-soleus complex
Stand on heel wedge/lift to prevent stretching in DF
precautions - THA anterolateral approach
no hip flex >90deg, extension, ER, adduction
hip dislocated anteriorly
precautions - THA direct lateral approach
no hip flex >90deg, extension, ER, adduction
no hip dislocation
precautions - THA posterolateral approach
no hip flex >90deg, IR or ER, adduction past midline
active hip abduction (cut through glute med)
hip dislocated posteriorly, high post-surgical dislocation rate
precaution - lumbar fusion first 6 weeks
BLT - bending, lifting, twisting
need to log roll in/out of bed then sit up
avoid what movements? bankart lesion of anterior labrum, subscapularis detached
extension
ER
resisted IR
avoid what movements? SLAP superior labrum lesion repair
contraction or stretching of biceps
avoid what movements? Anterior shoulder capsular shift procedure
extension ER Horizontal abduction wear sling intervention - begin AROM soon after surgery, progress strengthening
avoid what movements? posterior shoulder capsular shift
flexion IR horizontal adduction sling in handshake position intervention - begin AROM soon after surgery, progress strengthening
post THA which side should patient transfer to? what should be avoided?
transfer to stronger side if able to bear weight
Avoid rotating or twisting the upper body toward the surgical side with the lower extremity fixed
