What is ILD?
A
ILD is term to describe a number of conditions affecting the lung parenchyma in a diffuse manner. They are characterised by chronic inflammation and or progressive interstitial fibrosis.

What is presentation of ILD?
A
• Dyspnoea on exertion • Non-productive paroxysmal cough • Abnormal breath sounds • Abnormal CXR/HRCT Restrictive spirometry with decreased DLCO

What are causes of ILD?
A
Drug induced
Exposure related
Connective tissue disease e.g. RA, scleroderma
Sarcoidosis
Idiopathic

What investigations in ILD?
A
bloods: serum ACE and IG and ESR in sarcoid
Spirometry: restrictive pattern
CXR: subpleural honeycombing
Immunology
ABG
six minute walk
echo
HRCT: often needed for diagnosis
